In terrestrial ecosystems, phytochemistry is the language for trophic interactions, that drive ecological niches, consumer diversity, and coevolution between plants and herbivores. Gaining insight into the diversity of multitrophic interactions relies on uncovering the roles that plant chemistry plays in attracting, deterring, and influencing the physiology and behavior of consumers. Our lab concentrates on various aspects of chemical ecology, with the overarching aim of understanding how chemically-mediated interactions contribute to the maintenance of species diversity. We adopt a multidisciplinary approach, developing innovative lab-based metabolomics techniques to address field-based questions and studies.
